Rotary Club of Holy Spirit Supports Breast Cancer Awareness: Pink Day

By: Marcia Salvador

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On a PINK DAY on October 1, 2026, RC Holy Spirit partnered with Skyline Hospital and Medical Center in San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan, in celebrating Breast Cancer Awareness Month to raise awareness and support for people affected by breast cancer.

It was a full-day program at the hospital, starting with the free breast and cervical cancer screening services done by the Philippine Cancer Society through its mobile van. More than 100 women were screened. The importance of early detection for breast cancer cannot be overemphasized.According to PhilHealth, the country has “extremely low” screening rates for the disease, saying that only one percent of Filipino women have been screened.

The lay forum in the afternoon, dubbed “Kwento ng Pag-asa: Voices of Cancer Survivors,” was well attended by cancer patients, survivors, healthcare workers, and members of the community. The panelists were two (2) cancer survivors from Pink Warriors PH and RHCS Rtn Dr Doms Baldonado, who is the hospital’s medical director and a son of a deceased cancer patient. They shared their personal journeys, struggles, and challenges with the disease, as well as messages of hope. Dr Doms gave medical tips to women on lowering the risk of breast cancer and, in general, how to care for their breast health.Even members of the community who are surviving cancer patients had the chance to share their personal journeys with the disease.

After the lay forum, a one-hour Zumba wellness activity was held at the hospital grounds. The day ended with a meaningful symbolic lighting of the hospital building in pink after a brief countdown by all present. PINK DAY!What an occasion to share love and give hope!
